Writing Study: The Basics of Scientific Writing

Yogyakarta - In the realm of higher education, there exists a duty to uphold the Tridharma of Higher Education, comprising of education, research, and community service. It is the responsibility of all academic members to fulfill this obligation. Scientific work is the product of writing activities that adhere to scientific conventions, employing systematic thinking and language style. All student are expected to demonstrate the ability to produce scientific work, including research reports, papers, theses, and journals, as part of their coursework.
The Department of Human Resources of HMPS Islamic Accounting UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a writing study under the theme “Understanding the Basics of Writing Scientific Papers” on Sunday, June 13, 2021. The event took place online and featured Arfi Mulyasa Insani, an exceptional student from the Islamic Accounting study program, as the speaker. This initiative was part of the department’s work program and aimed to provide a platform for active students, including those from the Islamic Accounting study program and other general students, to enhance their skills in scientific writing.
The speaker discussed the essential components of a scientific paper, beginning with the preliminary sections such as the table of contents, background, research methodology, and analysis techniques. The core of the scientific paper includes the theory, data, analysis, and conclusions. Lastly, the concluding sections encompass the appendices and bibliography of the scientific paper.
“There is always a first time for everything. If not now, then when? If not you, then who? Tonight, we have been introduced to the concept of a scientific paper. Let’s all get accustomed to it and start writing and producing our own works from now on,” said Arfi Mulyasa Insani as the speaker in the writing study.
The event commenced at 19:30 WIB with the opening remarks by the moderator of the writing study, Abdur Rozaq (Staff of Human Resources Department of HMPS Islamic Accounting 2021). The conclusion of this activity is expected to familiarize students with and cultivate a passion for writing, ultimately leading to the creation of scientific papers that will positively impact both individuals and relevant institutions.
