IAI Goes To Campus “Understanding the Opportunities & Challenges of Accounting Profession Graduates”

Yogyakarta - Education at the university plays a role in producing the next generation prepared to be agents of change, committed to upholding professionalism, strong work ethic, and possessing exceptional skills while being adaptable to evolving circumstances. The ever-changing landscape necessitates continuous improvement in quality for the next generation, particularly emphasizing the importance of understanding the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, including accounting students.

Therefore, the Student Association of Islamic Accounting of UIN Sunan Kalijaga (HMPS-AKS UIN SUKA) for the 2022 period, through the External Department, collaborated with the Indonesian Institute of Accountants, Yogyakarta Region, to hold IAI Goes To Campus 2022, held at the Atrium Floor 01 of the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business Building at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta on Monday, June 20, 2022, from 08:00 to 12:00 WIB. The theme was “Opportunities & Challenges of Accounting Profession Graduates in the Era of Global Competition” and was attended by 110 participants, consisting of students from the Islamic Accounting study program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, students from the accounting study program representing Mahakarya Asia University, Yogyakarta State University, Respati Yogyakarta University, Janabadra University, Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta University of Technology, and representatives from the Accounting Student Forum in DIY.

The event commenced with an opening address by Dr. Afdawaiza, S.Ag., M.Ag., the Dean of FEBI, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, stating that “Accounting students must have a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges awaiting them after graduating from university in order to adequately prepare for the future. The IAI Goes To Campus event serves as a valuable platform for students to further their learning and gain insights, enabling them to excel and demonstrate resilience in the professional world.”

This event was attended by Dr. Hardo Basuki, M. Soc., Sc., CSA, the chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants, Yogyakarta Region, and Dr. Januar Eko Prasetio, M.Si., Ak., CA, as the speaker for the IAI Goes To Campus 2022 event. They presented material related to the future career paths of accounting graduates and discussed various training and certification activities conducted by the IAI to uphold the quality, accountability, and integrity of accountants.

“Graduates with a degree in accounting who aspire to become professional accountants must successfully complete a series of Chartered Accountant certification exams at different levels, beginning with the foundation level, progressing to the professional level, and ultimately obtaining CA Indonesia certification. Additionally, they must be officially registered as accountants in their respective country. Consequently, individuals who transition from administrative roles to accounting positions often evolve into the role of an analyst in the professional workforce,” said Dr. Januar Eko Prasetio, M.Si., Ak., CA.

This event was moderated by Siti Muskabikhul Khasanah, S.Akun, a graduate of the Islamic Accounting study program UIN Sunan Kalijaga, 2017 batch. The event yielded several significant conclusions, highlighting the abundant opportunities and challenges awaiting accounting graduates in the future.
