Sharia Accounting Study Program aUIN Sunan Kalijaga Conducts International Community Service in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur — Sharia Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, successfully conducted an International Community Service (PKM) event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event, themed "Community-Based Halal Business Development Strategies," was held in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur’s NU Special Branch Board (PCI NU).
The event, held on July 26, 2024, aimed to provide assistance and halal business development strategies for the Muslim community in Kuala Lumpur, particularly members of PCI Muslimat NU. During this event, the team from Sharia Accounting Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga offered training and mentoring on financial management, Sharia accounting, and community-based business strategies.
Rosyid Nur Anggara Putra, Head of the Sharia Accounting Study Program and leader of the PKM initiative, stated that the event was a tangible contribution from academia to support Sharia-based economic development at the international level. “Through this PKM, we hope to provide a deeper understanding of the significance of Sharia financial management and effective halal business strategies for the Muslim community in Malaysia,” he explained.
The collaboration with PCI Muslimat NU Kuala Lumpur was deemed strategic, given the organization's extensive community network and focus on economic empowerment. The Chairperson of PCI Muslimat NU Kuala Lumpur, Ny. Dra. Mimin Mintarsih, welcomed the initiative. “This event is highly beneficial for our members, particularly in understanding how to manage halal businesses professionally and in accordance with Sharia principles," she said.
Participants were also introduced to the significance of halal certification and strategies for developing sustainable community-based businesses. Additionally, they were equipped with basic accounting skills to facilitate financial management of Sharia-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Dr. Afdawaiza, Dean of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, expressed his appreciation for the event. “This international PKM not only strengthens academic ties between Indonesia and Malaysia but also serves as a crucial means to introduce Sharia accounting and halal business concepts to the international community,” he said.
With the successful implementation of this PKM, it is hoped that participants will apply the knowledge and strategies gained to develop more advanced and competitive halal businesses, both in Malaysia and at the international level.
